  • Hello,

Just visited your website, it looks like your theme is really old (or using very old WordPress functions) thus creating so many errors.

With any newer codebase (with a theme built for WordPress 3.7 or older) you wouldn’t even see these error messages.

I suggest you ask a local WordPress expert to help you fix the issue if urgent. Problem is mainly your theme needs to be updated now and your one makes bad use of WP core functions (or some disabled for a while). Still if in emergency case, just install a new official theme like Twenty Sixteen:

    https://www.www.ads-software.com/themes/twentysixteen/

At least your website won’t display errors while working with a professional to fix the other one.

Yes, thank you. The site was working very well with the older version.

It is really urgent and unfortunately with little expertise. I read somewhere renaming the directory of the active theme and rename it back might do the trick. Would that might work?!!

In case this theme directory renaming does not work how do I install a new official theme like Twenty Sixteen with no access to the site dashboard? And do I need to configure Shopp to the new theme? This would be beyond my expertise.

Your prompt reply will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi again HandL,

While working on fixing your usual / old theme, yes please put Twenty Sixteen or so at least it will not display errors to customers.

Just install it and switch to the theme (go to themes > add new > search for it), nothing to do with renaming theme (it will not work).

For the Shopp part, I’m not familiar with it, so again ask a local pro about that.

    Regards,

If you want to keep using your current theme, then you should make sure that WP_DEBUG is set to false in your wp-config.php file (as that should send the notices back into hiding).

If you want to deactivate your current theme, then yes, renaming its folder should force that to happen.

As far as the warning, the first thing to try for that is to download a copy of WP 4.4 to your computer, unzip it, locate its /wp-includes/functions.php file, and then upload that file to your server to replace the one which is currently there.

Thank you..will let you know how it goes…

In any case is there an avenue to contact local WordPress expert(s)?

Thank you again for the prompt response…….

Thank you girlieworks. Before everything went strange and I could not access the dashboard, I noticed when deactivating the Shopp plugin, the problem got worse. Then I reactivated the Shopp plugin again, and it was better. Then everything broke.

The most important thing is for the site to work asap. What do you recommend to do right away to get this site running again? Would Debug, or renaming, or uploading the WP 4.4 file take care of this issue? And if debugging, how do you do that? How do we set WP_DEBUG to false in our wp-config.php file?

Your prompt response is greatly appreciated.

    Greetings,

With all the plugins now deactivated, I feel it might work if I manually upload 4.4 version and replace the same version that caused these problems. If so how is this done manually?

    Please advise asap.

    Thank you

    Hello Digico Paris,

    Please advise.

You wrote “Just install it and switch to the theme (go to themes > add new > search for it“.

How can I switch to the newer theme with no access to the dashboard?

I replaced the WP 4.4 version with same version using ftp protocol, It did not work. Then replaced it again with the older version WP 4.3.1. Still not working. I went to the host and renamed the active theme the website went blank so i revert back to the old theme name…….

Your prompt response is greatly appreciated.

    Hello,

replaced wp-config.php with the backup file using ftb….made just one edition to the file WP_DEBUG was set to false rather than true as girlieworks suggested…and everything is back to normal…the site works fine now..

    thanks to everyone for help..
thanks to Digico Paris and girlieworks.

    Best,

    You’re welcome!
