I’ll mark this as “Not a Support Question,” since it’s not, but I do recommend two things:

    1. Follow along with development next time at https://make.www.ads-software.com/core/ so you aren’t surprised, and can make your voice heard during the process.

    2. WordPress now powers over 25% of known sites on the web, 4.4 itself has been downloaded 5,772,897 times as of this very moment. I say this in hopes that you keep in mind, just because you don’t want a feature, doesn’t mean others agree. ??

Just a quick reply to add this plugin for anyone who finds this thread: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/disable-responsive-images/

If this isn’t a support question I don’t know what would qualify. I wasted an hour trying to figure out why my images were getting resized. I managed to find the solution but I figured others would have this problem.

If I didn’t have to spend so much time having to override features like this, or auto updates, etc…..then maybe I’d have more time to keep up and contribute with core development.

I’ll I’m asking is that you don’t sneak these features in to the core with out giving us a way to easily turn them off in settings.

Well, you linked to the solution in your opening remarks, so I don’t really think that’s a support question, more like a support statement.

Leaving it as a question directs volunteers to answer it until resolved. I figured marking it as not a support question was more appropriate than marking it resolved.

It doesn’t mean your solution won’t be found by anyone, just that volunteers won’t be scrambling to answer the already answered thing. ??

If you hunt through the plugins directory after launch, there’s usually a plugin to disable each feature. For example:

    Responsive Images: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/disable-responsive-images/

    Post Embeds: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/disable-embeds/

    Emoji: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/disable-emojis/

A good search pattern is “disable [feature]”.

    You’re right….it was a support statement.

Why create a plugin to disable when that could just be done from the main settings page for media?

For that, see “Design for the Majority” and “Decisions, not Options” at https://www.ads-software.com/about/philosophy/

You got it right on the head. WordPress, themes, plugins, Microsoft, pretty much everything else…..rather than ask us if we want an option they force it on us and then we have to waste our time trying to change it back. That’s a bad approach.

Well, if you’ve got a great way to ask 25.5% of known sites online: https://w3techs.com/technologies/history_overview/content_management/all/y

or, the 5,859,625 people who have downloaded WordPress 4.4 so far: https://www.ads-software.com/download/counter/

before features are developed, that would be amazing. Otherwise, “Design for the Majority” and “Decisions, not Options” have to be the driving factors.

Regardless though, WordPress is developed by volunteers entirely in the open. If you follow development at https://make.www.ads-software.com/core/ you can at least make your voice heard at any time, or even get involved directly.

A great way!? Put it in settings. I go through settings on every site I do. In media just have a yes or no option….Do you want WordPress to make your images responsive?

    Moderator James Huff

    (@macmanx)

You do realize there would be somewhere around 100 options for disabling similar added features, right? It’s just not going to happen outside of plugins, sorry.

The features are designed for the majority. For the few who don’t want a specific feature, there will always be a plugin (or a filter/function for the more technically inclined).
