    1. I set up a new custom sidebar: “To attach this sidebar to a unique Post or Page please visit that Post or Page & set it up via the sidebars metabox.”

    2. I go to the blog page and look for the “sidebars metabox.” I see “Sidebars” with this:
“To change the sidebar for static Front-Page or Posts-Page:

    Go to the Widgets page
    Click on “Sidebar Location”
    Open the “Archive-Types” tab
    Choose “Front-Page” or “Post-Index””

    Followed by a graphic.

    3. I go back to Widgets, click on “Sidebar location,” open the Archive-Types” tab, choose “Post-Index.”

    4. I go to the blog page and look for the “sidebars metabox.” I see “Sidebars” with this:

    Go to the Widgets page
    Click on “Sidebar Location”
    Open the “Archive-Types” tab
    Choose “Front-Page” or “Post-Index””

    Followed by a graphic.

    5. I go back to Widgets, click on “Sidebar location,” open the Archive-Types” tab, choose “Post-Index.”

  • Hey there priehl,

    How are you doing today?

Let me try to explain how the plugin works:

    – In order for custom sidebars to work and replace sidebars first you need to allow the plugin to replace your theme sidebars. This is being done in Appearance -> Widgets by clicking “Allow this sidebar to be replaced” https://screencast.com/t/KROID1UwyL. Once you do that you can replace those specific sidebar locations with custom sidebars created in the same place.

-Next thing is creating a sidebar by clicking “Create New Sidebar” and adding widgets to it.

-Regarding displaying sidebar on different places there are two ways you can do this:

    * By selecting it in pages/posts from Sidebars metabox https://screencast.com/t/0bWFQo7qeWI. This will simply add this specific sidebar to that specific page or post.

    * Using Sidebar Location in Appearance -> Widgets for specific sidebar https://screencast.com/t/Qib5bOpGSw. This one is being used if you want to display sidebar on multiple locations at once or display it on archive pages. First part is related to single pages (single posts and pages), see screenshot https://screencast.com/t/VBXnmCNOb. The second part of the same place allows you to add specific sidebar to different archive pages, here you can select either special pages such as front page or search results page, or select special category archive pages to which you can choose to display this specific sidebar.

    Hope this makes sense ??

    Best regards,
    Bojan

    Hi Bojan,

Thanks for the explanation. In fact, I discovered a plugin called Beaver Builder that made it even easier for me (since I only have a few pages to deal with). Your solution would be great for a site with a number of pages, I think.

    Best regards,

    Paul

    Hey Paul,

That makes sense, I understand. On the other hand sorry to hear you’re not using Custom Sidebars.

    Happy holidays!

    Cheers,
    Bojan

    Hello Bojan,

I am having the same troubles that priehl was having. However, after reading and following your instructions I am still experiencing the same message in the sidebar metabox. My metabox still shows the instructions unlike your second screencast where it should say “Widget Area”.
    Thank you for your help!

    Kurt

    Hey Kurt,

Not really sure which message you’re referring to, can you please open a new thread so we don’t spam the thread opener and also add that information/screenshot there so I can try to help you figuring this one out ??

    Cheers,
    Bojan

    Hello
I’m hoping someone can help me here. I downloaded this plugin about two months ago, I built about 12 custom sidebars, and was working great until a few days ago. I’ve gone insane trying to figure out what went wrong, to no avail.
I’m getting exactly the same message “To change the sidebar for static Front-Page or Posts-Page:”, now I DO NOT get this message if the page I’m building is new, I can select the sidebar I want and works like a charm, the issue is; I made a mistake and selected the wrong sidebar, no sweat just go back and change it, right? NOPE! all I see is To change the sidebar for static Front-Page or Posts-Page:. I’m lost here, please help.
Let me add, I have not changed the theme at all, actually this plugin was tested, and then created new sidebars with the current theme.
