• hi guys,

i’m having a permalink issue. whenever i select post name i get

    this message
Warning: Selecting options or entering information on this page without activating the Customizable Permalinks plug-in may cause other links on your blog to break. If you have already activated Customizable Permalinks, you can ignore this message. To activate now, click the “Plugins” link above.

and i select it, but i still get 404 not found error

i tried to follow this thread –
    https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/how-to-fix-permalink-postname-404-not-found

but i have no idea what this means

Now from command line you should enable rewrite_mod by typing (you need to be root)
    a2enmod rewrite

    and then restart apache by
    /etc/init.d/apache2 restart

    please help!
    thx in advance!

  • Go to Settings > Permalinks, check to see if your permalinks are what you want – press “Save Changes”, wait a couple of seconds, press again. Check to see if you can get to your posts.

I have had permalink issues with all of my last 4 installs. I have no clue what to do about it. Everything works good when permalinks are set to plain.

    i just tried but doesn’t work…

it’s my client’s website and they are with yahoo small business which i heard is notoriously bad for wordpress…

there aren’t even .htaccess file, so i had to create it..

i told them to switch the hosting, but they already paid 5 years worth… argh…

Which Customizable Permalinks plugin are you using?

@cboysworld… please start your own thread, as per Forum Welcome ? WordPress Codex, as your host, theme, and plugins are more than likely different than wolverinejoe80‘s, so this solution may not work for you.
You may follow this thread, but please, do not post in it unless you could address wolverinejoe80‘s issue directly.

it’s called customizable links by yahoo. but yahoo small business now called aabaco. but i think it doesn’t work anymore. link to plugin home page just takes to aabaco home page.

So this is not a WordPress plugin, it is a plugin from Yahoo… so it probably is not compatible with the recent versions of WordPress. It more than likely has to go.

Can you post a link to your site, please.

Also, the Aabaco Small Business System Status reports this: Intermittent error upgrading WordPress to version 4.3 and/or updating WordPress plugins

receiving errors when upgrading WordPress to version 4.3 or updating WordPress plugins

There may be issues with WordPress 4.4 now. If I were you, I would contact their Customer Support and ask them about this issue.

    i’ll call them tomorrow

Hi wolverinejoe80 can you tell me how you created the .htaccess file and add to the aabaco server? I tried creating a sample .abc file but i get a prohibited file name error. Did that resolve your issue? I am experiencing the same thing. My sites internal pages only work with the “plain” permalink setting.
