• For some reason many of my images are not able to be renamed to match their respective titles because apparently the ideal filename already exists. I get an error code that says “ideal filename already exists.” I can’t for the life of my figure out how to fix this.

I checked my media library and for the images that this error occurs for (about 30% of my files), only one image exists. so I don’t know where these other filenames are residing. I recently migrated from wordpress.com to www.ads-software.com but deleted all the images that were in wordpress.com so I don’t think that’s the problem.

    Any ideas?

Ah yeah, it’s the ideal filename already exists, only two things you can do:

    – change the title of the media since the filename is automatically decided based on it (and it’s the best way too, you want your media title to be unique)
    – enable the option in the settings to add a counter at the end of the filename (-2, -3, etc…)

Does this help or your actual issue is different?

Thank you, that helps, but I’m wondering if you know the reason why the renamer is saying that the file name already exists, when there is only file in existence, the one in my media library.
I will follow your advice though and change the titles.

Because it already exists ?? Are you sure another media does not have that filename? It’s actually common to have this if you upload files with the same title.

You can also look for this new ideal filename in your FTP or directly by browsing the URL, it is certainly somewhere. The worse case is that if you have files in your install but they are not linked to any media. In that case you can try the Media File Cleaner plugin.

I have many images that have the same name with there respective sizes included. The plugin is trying to rename all of them to the same name by truncating the size reference? Is there a way around this?

Do you mean the full-size/original image has the size included? You can create your own “renaming” pattern, you can look in the FAQ for this, you will find the code you need to write and customize.
