• After I log into my WordPress dashboard, I notice that there are updates available (2 plugins and 1 theme). When I click the link to perform the update, it simply opens up my website. The resultant URL in the browser seems like it is correct, but again, only the website is displayed and not update is performed. Further, it seems that many of the WordPress Dashboard links only open up the website itself and not to what you would expect it to go to. It almost acts like there is an error and it is merely defaulting to the home page, but no error is displayed. Any ideas?

  • Have you tried performing the update on a different browser or after clearing cookies/cache on the current browser?

Yes, I have tried this on a completely different browser and cleared the cache with the same results.

Have you tired disabling every plugin you have and seeing if this changes anything?

If that doesn’t work revert to TwentyFifteen theme and rule out a theme related issue.

I am unable to disable the plug-ins (via the WP Dashboard anyway). When I attempt to do so, that link opens up the website, not the plug-in page. The same thing happens when I try to go to the Theme page from within the Dashboard. It just seems like the Dashboard is the issue for some reason, but I certainly could be mistaken.

If I revert back to that other them, what will happen to my existing content & settings when I go back to my current theme (which is ThemeCo X)? Do I need to backup my current site?

I’d recommend a backup regardless of the problems you are experiencing.

However, ThemeCo X is a commercial theme and WPORG forums don’t provide support for commercial themes, I’d recommend making a post on their support site for help in that area, best of luck.
