• I moved my website/blog to netfirms and while everything went well, the Blog didn’t. I tried to copy and paste and that worked for old blog items. But the new blogs I write can only be accessed via the three dots in the upper right-hand corner.

How can I get them to automatically publish to my Blog page? Please, I need detailed instructions. One of the WP people gave instructions but admitted they don’t work since I’m self-hosting (didn’t really think I was).

I appreciate any help anyone can provide.

  • Hi Patricia! The ellipsis (…) in the upper right hand corner of your site appears to be a sidebar which has been squeezed into a tiny space next to your menu. The first thing I would advise, in order to help you a little bit, is to go to “Appearance” on your dashboard, then “Menus”. There should be a section for “Posts”. If you expand that selection, You should see something like “Most Recent”. Theoretically, it will show the blog posts you have made since your move to NetFirms. You should then be able to “Select All” at the bottom of the list and click the button next to it, “Add to Menu”. That should at least put your recent blog posts on your actual menu. Take a fresh look at your site to see if you can now see that on your site. Next if you go to “Appearance” on your WordPress dashboard, then “Widgets”, you should see “Sidebar” as one of the widget areas. You probably have “Recent Posts” added to that sidebar. If you click there on that Sidebar section, you should see “delete” at the bottom. Click that, and it may automatically save, or you may need to click the “Save” button next to it. That is the main help I can provide. It is possible that your old posts and new posts are in separate databases, which could be why your new posts aren’t appearing in the same place as your old (copied and pasted) posts. Also, your background image (as lovely as it is) appears to be about 3 or 4 MB in size. It will take “forever” to load no matter how good someone’s connection is (nevermind on a smart phone.) You would want the file size of any image on a site to be less than 1 MB (ideally even less than 100 kB). Your photo editing software, or a knowledgeable photo person should be able to reduce the file size without a big loss of quality. In regards to “Self-Hosting” I believe what the WP people mean is that you have your site hosted with a host of your choosing, as opposed to being hosted with word press .com. In terms of your content, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

Thanks for your thoughtful response to my plea for help. I’ll give it some thought today and see how I do.

One thing I can easily do is to reduce the background image with my PS. Didn’t think it would come out very well if it were smaller, but we’ll see.

Also, thanks for the encouragement. That’s truly what all these forums and members like you do–help when it’s needed. I do appreciate it.

Some of the responses to others assumed a degree of comfort with CSS and I don’t do coding, so it wasn’t helpful. But your suggestions are concrete enough for me.

    Thanks.
