I’ve been trying to access my website and dashboard for the last day and a half. I keep getting “the connection has timed out”. I had change the home page a couple of days ago, adding pictures and adjust text, so I hope that had nothing to do with it. I tried to go to by website on another computer and it took a really long time to load. What did load was pretty much an empty site and nothing positioned the way I last left it.

A few things to look into:

can you de-activate your plugins and switch to a theme like twentyfifteen?
have you checked in with your host to see if there are any server issues?
are you able to access your website via PHPmyAdmin to see if your content is still there?
do you have a backup copy of your website?

Since I can’t get into my WP dashboard I don’t know how to mess with any plugins. Can i do that through my cpanel?
I sent an email to my website host to see if it’s something there.

I tried to download PHPmyAdmin in my cpanel and I got this warning:

The following errors were found :

PHP version is less than the required 5.5.0
Do you wish to enable PHP 5.5.30 ? (Might cause issues with your existing installations).

I have no idea as to what I’m doing so I wasn’t sure if that’s something I should mess with. I’m guessing now…maybe I should?

    I get this too:

XML Parsing Error: unexpected parser state Location: jar:file:///C:/Program%20Files/Mozilla%20Firefox/browser/omni.ja!/chrome/browser/content/browser/aboutNetError.xhtml Line Number 395, Column 68:
    <div id=”ed_connectionFailure”>&connectionFailure.longDesc;</div>

Went ahead and tried to install php5.5.30 and got this:

The following errors were found :

Installation cannot proceed because the following files already exist in the target folder :
    favicon.ico
    index.php
    robots.txt
Please delete these files or choose another folder.OR
Select the checkbox to overwrite all files and continue

    Should I delete those?

Can’t open phpAdmin. Guess I’ll wait to see what web host says

Got this from my website hosts:

Results of the Traceroute command clearly show that before reaching the server your request gets filtered by several routers from our side. It actually reaches it but through the network that protects our servers from DDoS attack. The issue is that we have been forced to enable such protection that is designed to filter the traffic that goes to the server and block the suspicious connections. Sometimes it may result in false-positive blocks like the one you are experiencing, unfortunately.

It is a temporary protection and it will be disabled once we know that there is nothing else that puts our servers in danger of another DDoS attack. As a temporary fix we advise accessing your website and/or cPanel through another Internet connection.

    …………………………………………………………

So I guess I’ll wait till they get that sorted. Still unsure why I get get to the WP dashboard. Arn’t they two seperate things…kind of?

    Oh well.

Yup, two separate things. From how it sounds, the issue is currently with your web host instead of your website. Once the issues on their end are resolved, your website should work.

Oops I meant *can’t* get to the WP dashboard. Since they are two separate things shouldn’t I at least be able to do that?
