How to use News, Related, Slideshow widget to display image?

I used to use link in text widget. It doesn’t work anymore in 4.4. Instead, they add this new widget. According to the description, it should “Display posts, pages, images, slideshow, news, related posts and more.” However, after I unfold the widget, it’s extremely long and confusing. Moreover, they didn’t update the documentation yet. I tried, it didn’t work. It’s not urgent, though. I can use an image widget plugin, but it’s nice to figure how to use the new build-in function to avoid potential plugins conflicts.
