Removing Category and Comments

On all of my blog posts, there is a “middle column” that has the category and how many comments. It is taking up space that would better be used for the actual text of the post.

It was suggested that I download a plugin to remove the meta data, which I did, but it is still there. How can I remove that section from my blog posts?
