    Greetings All,
    We are currently running WP 2.3.2. Yesterday, our admin began to display a message in a cream bar saying “A New Version of WP is Available. Download File”

    At the bottom of our admin, it says, “Your Version of WP 2.3.2 is out of date. Please update”

    So, obviously, we wanted to upgrade. We’ve not had any problems with this in the past. Yes, we’ve deactivated all plugins, backed up the database and followed all the steps along with a YouTube tutorial just to make sure we weren’t forgetting something. But, we’ve now tried to do this three times and this is what happens:

    When we go to run the update PHP file, it says “No Upgrade Necessary”. Then, when we hit “Continue” and are taken back into the admin, we are still getting the “Please Upgrade” message. It continues to say we are still running on 2.3.2.

    We can’t seem to get this to work. What could we be doing wrong? Why can’t we upgrade, and why does WP say we need to and then tell us we don’t need to. We’d really appreciate your help. Thanks!

    Hi Whooami
    Inside the file it says:
    This holds the version number in a separate file. We can bump it without cluttering the SVN.

    $WP_Version=’2.3.2′;
    $WP_dd_version=6124;

    Does this help? Why is it saying 2.3.2 instead of 2.3.3. I’d really appreciate your help. Thanks.

    Because you didn’t upload the copy of wp-includes/version.php that is inside the latest zip, thats why… and thats why I asked.

    Along with that file, you will want to make sure that you have uploaded a brand new xmlrpc.php.

    In fact, I recommend deleting the old one first, and uploading a fresh one, just to be sure. Thats the singular most important file in the 2.3.3 upgrade from 2.3.2

    My experience is that a lot of people miss the fact that their FTP clients sometimes do not overwrite files, if the files are already on the server. Some clients prompt, some dont, some check the filesize, some dont. That said, a client that checks the filesize isnt going to see any diff. between the version.php files since they’re identical, save one number.

    In other words, its an easy miss in that case.

    Either way, I always tell people to delete the files off the server, before uploading fresh ones — and I believe the newest upgrade instructions are emphatic about that also, now. They didnt used to be, and a lot more ppl had more problems.

    There are still people that dont do it, of course, but they usually end up back here, asking support questions ??
