Host Startlogic and error 500

  • Recently encountered a problem installing WordPress on a Startlogic host. The account had CGI activated but when trying to do the install.php step the error,

    “The server encountered an unexpected condition which prevented it from fulfilling the request.
    The script had an error or it did not produce any output. If there was an error, you should be able to see it in the error log.”

    was displayed.

    Via the startlogic chat got a support tech to check the account and he/she flipped some setting on their end that allowed me to do the installation. The support tech wouldn’t say what they changed, but I suspect that something doesn’t get configured correctly when you activate CGI.

  • I had a similar problem with a Plesk-based IIS installation that was running PHP.

    Switching PHP to load as an ISAPI extension instead of via CGI fixed the problem.

    With Startlogic you have to ask their support department, via a Support Ticket, or chat, to ‘fix’ it so CGI (and thus PHP) will work properly. As I said, their support department won’t specifically state what they are fixing and in fact try to make it seem like it is something the end-user has done–that is not the case. There seems to be nothing that can be done by the end-user, at least in the Vdeck Control Panel offered by Startlogic, to fix the problem except to contact Startlogic support.

    Another go around with startlogic this day. The support department there will make you think you’ve Enable CGI incorrectly, but it is just a button you click. What??? did I click the button wrong? ??

    Got one tech to admit that it was a ‘system glitch’.

    Also saw this happen on an existing account where the WordPress installation just broke until startlogic support fixed the problem on their end.
