• Hi All,

I seem to have the same problem that a lot of other people are having here on the forum. I try to upload a image but get a un-helpful error: “An error occurred in the upload. Please try again later.” Images upload but they do not show up in wordpress. After a failed upload, I can see a white icon with the name of the photo but the photo itself never shows up.

    1) I tried uploading many different photos and sizes from 163kb to a 6MB JPEG file and the same with a few PNGs. Same result although I did get my new 32×32 icon uploaded successfully.

    2) I tried multiple computers and browsers.

    3) I tried editing wp-config.php to increase memory. A suggestion from research online.

    4) I tried uploading on a brand new installation of WordPress (on the same server) installed using the 1&1 (my host) App Center. Same Problem.

Any help appreciated! Please let me know if there are other troubleshooting steps I should take or if there is any more info you need from me.

    Thanks,
    – Hunter

  • Hi,

The multiple computer you tried it with, were they connected to the same network? I had the same problem a few months back and it turned out to be a problem only on my home network for that particular site. Worked perfectly fine on different networks.

Thanks Janis. Yes, same network. I just tried uploading an image from my laptop while tethered with my phone. Same result. I will try this on another wifi network later today.

    Thank you,

I tried uploading images on two different networks and still get the error. Images seem to upload just fine but do not process in WordPress.

I have the exact same issue. What’s more, it seems to have developed on one of the sites that I have previously had no issue with. Some of the images I’m attempting to upload are actually smaller in file size than previous successful uploads(!)

I am having the same issue. Do you have the Jetpack plugin installed? This seems to be causing the issue. I suggest starting a ticket over at the plugin support forum to see if they can provide a solution.

On one site it sees to be Revolution Slider which causes the issue, but on another I can’t seem to get any pic to upload properly – even when turning off all plugins.

Oh and no Jetpack on any of the sites.

@chris_concept I have seen a lot of the same issues here on the forum but no solutions yet. Seemed to happen to me after I updated to 4.4.1

@ladymercury I have Jetpack installed on one site but not on the other that I have problems with. That one is a fresh installation of 4.4.1 without any plugins or themes installed. Which leads me to believe that for me, it is a server or WordPress 4.4.1 issue.

I just spoke with Jetpack support, along with my host, we realized its a memory allocation issue. You could read more about it here: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/jpg-files-over-2mb-not-uploading-correctly?replies=6

Maybe that’ll help with the problem?

I will note that my host had to bump up my memory allocation from 96 to 128mb in order for me to upload larger JPGs and run Jetpack at the same time. The same could be the problem with your plugins and file uploads.

You could be right ladymercury, it sounds like I had the same problem you did. I deactivated Jetpack and Ithemes Security plugins and I was able to upload some jpegs that I couldn’t before. They still had to be under 1mb though.

The thing is, I have 4 WordPress sites on my shared hosting plan with 1&1 and 2 of the 4 work just fine when uploading images. Including the largest one with the most images, posts and active plugins running on WordPress 4.4.1. Weird, huh?

I will get with my host and see if they have a solution and post back.

Quick update; I contacted 1&1 support and over the phone they recommended that I upgrade my package to 1&1 Unlimited Plus from 1&1 Home. After I did that this morning I noticed in PHP.INI settings that PHP max memory was 81MB which is less than the 120MB in my previous package.

Would 120mb of PHP memory be enough to run WordPress? I would think so but anyone have any thoughts?

    Thanks,
