• I’m using WordPress 3.5.2 with a Prophoto 3 theme. Thought I had all the bugs worked out and recently clicked on the link to it from my web page (nancyziller.com) jeffersonterritory.com/blog and got this message- Error establishing a database connection.

    Then I tried jeffersonterritory.com/blog/wp-admin
    and got nothing. Any suggestions?

  • Hi,
One of the main reasons you are seeing the error message is simply because the connection information is incorrect in the wp-config.php file.

    – Double check the connection settings the in the wp-config.php file.
    – Ensure that there is actually a database installed on the server.

THANK YOU! I figured out how to find my wp-config.php file, can you or any other kind person tell me how to check the connection settings OR to see if there is a database installed on the server?

You need to check with your webhost and/or use your hosts Control Panel.

Ok! Im making progress, here is the reply from my Host,””I was able to fix the database issue and your site was compromised. Now I am getting script errors and this can be fixed by removing all the files but the wp-content folder and the wp-config file. Then uploading the new wordpress.”

SO my question is I think I can figure out how to delete all the files I need to but how do I find and upload the new wordpress? Will my blog apprear or will I have to start all over?

    Thanks for any assistance”)

your site was compromised. Now I am getting script errors and this can be fixed by removing all the files but the wp-content folder and the wp-config file. Then uploading the new wordpress.

That means the site was hacked. But your host’s advice to fix the hack is incomplete at best.

    Carefully follow https://codex.www.ads-software.com/FAQ_My_site_was_hacked

Then take a look at the recommended security measures in Hardening WordPress – WordPress Codex and Brute Force Attacks – WordPress Codex

If you can’t do the work yourself, consider looking for a reputable person on https://jobs.wordpress.net/ or https://directory.codepoet.com or https://upwork.com

(FYI, it’s not a good idea to respond to work offers from random forum users who have read about your issues.)
