• The widgets at the bottom of my pages were gone for the “Dark footer” after we did the 4.4.1 upgrade. We host on our own server so file access is no problem.

Can anyone tell me where a file is that has the data the we filled in for the Custom Menu widget? For the life of me I cannot remember what was in the footer, U know we had three things, a disclaimer (need this) a few quick links to other pages on the site (need this two) and the Social Media widget (we HAVE the data for that one).

I have searched hours for any screen capture of the bottom of the web page, no luck. If I can get the data back from the two widgets, I can recreate them with the new widget.

Any suggestions as to where to find this info cached or stored will appreciate very very much!!!!

    Thank You,

    Michael

  • Hi, mtdurham, & welcome to the WordPress support forum. First, let me apologize for the delayed response. As volunteers, life sometimes gets in the way of being able to respond to requests for help as quickly as we’d like.

Normally these types of things are actually stored in the database as opposed to a particular file. I’m guessing from what you’re saying you don’t have a backup? Did the custom menu get deactivated or could you explain a bit more about what occurred?

If there is no backup, then the only thing I know to suggest is to try the Way Back machine at internetarchive.org & see if it perchance has a cached version of your site.

I’m really sorry this happened to you. I hope you’ll consider a plan for regular backups of your database in future, & especially prior to an upgrade. There are lots of plugins on www.ads-software.com for that purpose, & you’re likely also able to do that from a control panel or via the command line.
