Translating plugins: Stable vs Development

    Hi,

    I’m posting this question here as I can’t find any answer in the Translator Handbook or at https://make.www.ads-software.com/polyglots

    So to my question.

    If I want to translate a plugin into a locale I visit https://translate.www.ads-software.com/locale/xx-xx/default/wp-plugins/plugin-name
    where I have two releases for translation as follows:

    Development | Development Readme | Stable | Stable Readme

    I get that the Stable versions are those in the latest release and that the Development versions feature changes for the future release. So, say I translate the Stable versions, are a) the identical strings in the Development versions also updated, or b) do the same strings also need to be translated in the Development version? From what I can see so far, b) is currently the case.

    If I am correct, are there any plans for a) to be the case? If I am incorrect, why don’t I see the changes I make in the Stable version updated in the Development version?

    Any insight here would be gratefully received.

  • Hi, if the strings are identical, then if you translate the stable strings then the dev strings are also translated. Only new strings need translating.

    Can you provile a plugin link so I can test it? (I’m a validator)

    Many thanks for getting back with the confirmation. The plugin I was working on is here. Since I made the original post 4 days ago the process now seems to be working fine where the stable strings = the development strings on this plugin and on the other translations I have worked on.

    Understood, but I had no other way of contacting this plugin translation editor about becoming a global translation editor – no clue on their profile for any means of contact.

    However, I have just found that their email address is revealed in the Rosetta site for plugin translation editors, so I’m good.
