media library sort images by alphabetical order?

  • How can I arrange the pics in ABC order? they are named by category and it is a disaster having to scroll up and down 7 pages in list view trying to find the one I want. They seem to be arranged by date of uploading which is not valuable to me.

    for example I’d like them to be
    art-pic 1
    art-pic -2
    dogs – 1
    dogs -2
    fish -1
    fish – 2 etc

    I can see them ABC order in wp-content -> uploads -> images folders but then there are TEN copies of every image for some unknown reason which renders that method useless.

    finding it hard to believe corporate entities using WP wade thru all their images in random order so there must be a way to do this ??

    You can sort the media uploads by name but you have to have the media library in list view and then click on the “File” column header to sort by name.

    thanks for the tip, did not know that. It is handy to preview what is there.

    unfortunately when one goes to media library to add/insert an image to a page it is still in the jumbled up way, not in the most useful sorting order when one has many images.
