• Hello,

I’ve created home page and noted “static home page” under Appearance/Reading.

However, it does not appear on site. I can see it if I click “view page” but not after I update and publish page. My Navagation/Menu is set to “Home” with the page title under “Attributes”.

    Please help! Thanks.

  • Hi, christophersangelsorg, & welcome to the WordPress support forum.

First of all, if you haven’t already done so, please go to ‘Pages > Add New’ & create a homepage. You can title it anything you like. Add some content, then press the ‘Publish’ button–make sure it’s not draft, please.

Next, go to ‘Settings > Reading. Select the button to have the home page be static, then select the page you created from the dropdown list. You can repeat the process for your blog page, WordPress calls it your ‘Posts’ page, but this time only put its title & no content. When you add a new post, this is where your blog is. Don’t forget to save your changes, & remember to change your permalink structure to something search-engine friendly like ‘Postname’.

Please let us know if this helps.

what theme are you working with?

some themes might have fixed templates for the front page…

are you able to post a link to your site?

    Thanks for the response.

    Jackie,
    I’ve done all that.
After your first suggestion, I can see my page when I click “preview page”. After I click “publish”, however, it does not show up on my site.
I am only trying to set up a simple page, no blogs. I want for people to be able to subscribe to receive a monthly newsletter/announcement.

    Michael,
I purchased “Elegant” theme from MoJo and had them install it.

    Again, thank you!

however, it does not show up on my site.

were do you expect to see the page?
    in a menu?
you might need to set that up first via ‘dashboard – appearance – menus’ …
and please do not hesitate to ask the seller/developer of your theme for help.

Hi Michael, I would like to see it on my home page. Thanks.

I have a menu item “Home” set up.

Christopher’s Angels, what should we be seeing? What should the homepage look like? I happen to be a blind support forum volunteer, so if you attach a screenshot, I won’t see it, but likely Michael can. Alternatively, you could copy & paste the text of the homepage that should be appearing but isn’t.

I tried to attache a page screen shot but would not accept here.

    On Appearance-Menu-Menu Structure:
Can you please tell me what goes in “Title Attribute”?

    Thank you!

    UPDATE
    Please disregard above.

I copied the page that would not show as Home Page and created a new one; called it “Home”. The new one does now appear but only when the “Home” on the menu bar is clicked.

If I mark “static page” and chose “Home” from the drop down menu, then only “page Error” shows on my hone screen when I enter my domain

The page I wish to be my home page is:
    https://www.christophersangels.org/?page_id=2266

    Please help me. Thank you.
At this point, I can message you my password, even. Frustrated!

This is the page I wish to be my home page. Not the one above. Thanks!

christophersangelsorg, could you please try an experiment for me? Could you please just momentarily switch themes to like 2015, i.e., a WordPress default theme, clear your browser’s cache, visit the site, & see if that page shows up as your homepage? You might also need to log out–or use a different browser from which you’re not logged in.

But let’s see what happens when you do that, ok? You can switch it back once you determine whether or not it displays as the homepage.

Pasting the link to the page you wanted to be your homepage worked quite well, thank you. & very nice website, btw. I’m so sorry about Christopher, but I’m glad you were able to make something positive come out of great sadness.

    thank you, Jackie.
I will try what you suggest and be right back. I only hope that the theme I purchased would not have to be re-installed because I don’t know how to do that. Thanks, be back shortly.

    Hi Jackie,
The page I want (with photo of Chris) does not show up as my home page.
Again, on the new theme, it shows only when I click on “home”.

    (@christophersangelsorg)

I was able to quickly set the correct page on the WP2016 theme, however.
It may be that I keep this free theme.

Do you know if I can send out news letters easily enough with this theme? I am dense when it comes to coding.

    Thanks!

Ok, thanks. Please go ahead & switch back to your elegant theme.

Ok, so at the risk of beating an already dead horse–could you please go to Settings > Reading & please confirm for me the following:
    a) That you have the button checked to select a static homepage (I really believe you do); &
    b) Could you please confirm for me that the page entitled ‘home’ is selected in the list?
    c) Could you also confirm for me that either nothing or a page other than home is selected in the post pages list?

    Thanks.

I believe you said you didn’t want a blog, but in actuality, that might be a good place to post projects, talk about your 22nd random acts of kindness days, etc. I’m certainly not trying to tell you how to run your website–just thinking out loud as much as anything–& perhaps providing an idea or 2.
