I have read a few topics here on this forum. It is generally accepted that WP can be used as CMS for small websites. My questions are:

    1. Is it a good idea to use WP as CMS for websites having 500+ articles/essays etc (or intend to have articles/essays in such a big number in near future)?

    2. Is it right decision to use only ‘Page’ to write every article/essay, and discard using ‘Post’ option? There are going to be 500-plus Pages then.

I have been using WP for my blog for two years and it is working wonderfully. I have chosen WP for my new small websites. This time I am thinking to use WP as CMS for my main website https://www.amritworld.com/ which already has a good number of pages and in future more and more pages will be added there.

I would really be thankful to you for your suggestions and guidelines.

    Regards.

Here’s some information I just posted in another thread. There’s likely more out there. Google for “wordpress non-blog” and you’ll prolly get tons. But this should get you started.

I dont know about 500 pages, but 500 posts is nothing.

Hmm. Didn’t see that one. I think it would be much better to be able to organize and catalog the content of those 500 pages if they were posts with categories assigned to them. You can feature several different “categories” on the front page, pull the latest from each. You can always strip bloggy stuff (comment links, etc.) from your template so they don’t LOOK so much like blog posts.

I’m poking around your site now. I see you have writers’ guidelines. There is a nice plugin that would hold contributors’ posts for review that you might want to check out. One advantage to using WP is that there are plugins galore for just about anything and everything you can think of.

I am wondering about language tho. I’m sure there are many WP blogs out there that are in multiple languages, you may want to hunt around this support forum to see how that’s handled.

Thank you very much for your valuable suggestions.

So, I have now decided to use ‘Posts’ option for my articles, as you have suggested. That definitely will be much better to organize big number of articles.

I have started making my website using WP as CMS. Whenever I complete it, I will make it available for my visitors. At present WP is not linked to my present home page, so that I could make it in WP in slow and steady manner.

I have decided to use two WP’s on my site; one for main site as CMS and and other for my blog (diary). I want totally different theme for my blog, which I named ‘My Diary’. My main site will be here on this link: https://www.amritworld.com/main/ and blog will be at: https://www.amritworld.com/diary/ .

Please give me more suggestions for my WP site, because it is at a beginning stage, so I can make changes accordingly.

Once again, thank you very much for your valuable suggestions.

    Regards.

My website is in two languages, English and Punjabi. I will have to learn how to write in Punjabi in WP, but at present that is not a problem, because I am using PDF for my Punjabi articles and GIF for my Punjabi poems.

I use WP as a content management system for a lot of websites. You ask about whether to use pages or posts.

I think the answer depends on what you want your site to do.

I have created a number of sites where the pages of the
site are just static pages that stay there for ever and obviously new pages need adding if and when e.g. https://www.volvobreakers.co.uk is one that I created like this.

On the other hand if your site is more of a news site then you may want to use both pages and posts. The example below is one that I am currently working on for a radio station. The pages are always there, like for the presenters and schedule etc, but news items and galleries are going to be added to all the time so they are written as posts with categories assigned to them.

Using posts also allows you to create a dynamic home page which brings in the latest posts from a certain categories.

You really need to sit down and plan out exactly what you want/need your site to do and then try and work out whether it is posts or pages that you need.

    Hope this helps.

P.S. some sites that I have created using WP as a CMS are below for examples and perhaps to get ideas from:

Dear markdw, thank you very much for your valuable suggestions.

I have decided to use ‘Post’ option at this stage. I intend to add so many articles in future. So, it will be difficult to manage them if I use ‘Page’ option.

I have just checked the websites designed by you. You are really a great web designer. I hope we will learn so many points from you.
