Strange spikes in visitor stats

    Hi all
    Since I moved to my own name URL, I have seen a strong improvement in the number of hits and page views over my old site and this is a very positive thing of course. But in checking my stats on WP Statistics plugin I noticed two strange and kind of unbelievable spikes in the number of visitors. It is definitely worth mentioning that these two days where the spikes show are NOT reflected in my over all stats count. Nor do I find any other reference to them in other analysis of the visitor/page load numbers. The latest one of the two is from Jan 27 where it shows a peak at 1841, which as I say does not show anywhere else in my statistics. Can anyone tell me if this anomaly is simply a glitch or something to look into more seriously?

    Probably just a bot hitting your site that didn’t get excluded, you’ll see these once in a while.

    Thanks so basically nothing to worry about? Also perhaps I should have mentioned that my site is routed through CloudFlare for extra security. My last site became a serious target for hackers and caused me hours and hours of work, in the end I simply closed it, dumped the domain altogether. So you can understand seeing these two spike worried me a lot; wondering if this was going start being a problem again…

    I see these kind of spikes once or twice a month, no need to worry in general. If they become more persistent you might want to track down why they are not being captured as robots, but that’s not easy so unless it starts to skew your stats significantly it’s probably not required.

    Ugh! At first, I was like, look at me, I’m the man. I seem to be getting a crazy number of Facebook hits on my blog for 1 particular post. I couldn’t explain it. Now I guess it’s just a bot? Is this correct. Shoot! All that excitement for nothing.
