I hadn’t posted on my blog in a week or so, and today when I went to create a new post, I briefly saw a row of links – “hidden object games download” on the main Visual screen. It disappeared and I couldn’t find it in the Code window.

It always reappears for a split second as I am switching from the Code to the Visual screen.

    Is this harmful?

yes it is, and judging by that, and this:

    <meta name="generator" content="WordPress 2.2.1" />

    Your site has been exploited.

Being nearly a year behind in upgrades isnt a good idea.

Thank you. I will address this immediately.

What does this mean? Do they have my passwords? If I post something, will readers be redirected to their site, or click on a virus or something? What are the dangers of site exploitation? Will upgrading my version of WP stop the exploitation?

Is it possible to find out who is responsible for this? If so, how?

    umm..

take deep breaths, the world wont end.

Youre questions are best answered like so: Assume the worst.

So you assume they have passwords, doesnt mean they do.. but you assume it.

    So on so forth ..

Upgrading will definitely help but first you need to find the source of your current problem.. if its a file, it might be one thats changed with the upgrade, on the other hand it might not.

If its in your database, then you need to find it there.

The goal is to remove the code before you upgrade so you dont take it with..

Its also easier to find, especially when dealing with files since the timestamps tend to be dead giveaways.

Contact your host, let them now.

    Take deep breaths.

As to who did it.. No, its not really. malicious hackers, script kiddies and the like hide behind proxy ips.
