• Hi… So the top video will play. If I click any other videos in the gallery when viewing on my iPhone, the little loader starts spinning, it shows the first frame and eventually says “If playback doesn’t begin shortly, try restarting your device.” Works great on my computer but on the iPhone and iPad it has this problem. Any ideas? Thanks!

  • I have the same problem.

It just seems to be stuck on loading the video on the iphone. Works on various PCs.

    Apple restrictions.

I just tested the same playlist with the Youtube Embed plugin and it does not have this problem (it works) so I don’t think it is an Apple restriction.

Agreed… Not to bring up other products, but TubePress (I like the look of YouTube Channel Gallery better btw) will play all the videos in the gallery on apple products. I just really prefer the look of this one.

You reminded me that we used Tubepress a couple of years ago for some sites and you are correct that plugin also did not have this problem

    Hi

can you play a video from a thumbnail with that plugin or only the video of the player?

Apple Safari HTML5 Audio and Video Guide:

“In Safari on iOS (for all devices, including iPad), where the user may be on a cellular network and be charged per data unit, preload and autoplay are disabled. No data is loaded until the user initiates it. This means the JavaScript play() and load() methods are also inactive until the user initiates playback, unless the play() or load() method is triggered by user action. In other words, a user-initiated Play button works, but an onLoad=”play()” event does not.”

I don’t remember about Tubepress although i think the thumbnails worked.

You are correct that it does not automatically play a video if you click on one of the the thumbnails in Youtube Embed. It moves that video into the player and you have to click on the play icon again to get it to play. But once you click on that icon it works.

but with this plugin it gets stuck loading the video from the thumbnail and you don’t have the opportunity to click again and play it.

I have tubepress working at https://nikkiglaser.com/videos/ and it works on my iPhone. However, I did notice one thing. Yours tries to play the video immediately when you click on it. On TubePress, after you click something in the gallery, it puts that video in the player at the top and does not try to play it. Then you have to click it and it starts playing. Is that there work around?

    *their ??

I’ve just done the same testing on my iPhone and iPad and can confirm the same experience as kilerb and sailpilot regarding youtube gallery.
When selecting thumbnails it gets stuck on the player and will not continue, eventually says “If playback doesn’t begin shortly, try restarting your device.”
i can say that sometimes it works and most times on iPhone it does not.
For info: ipad is version 4 and iPhone is 4S.

I have autoplay set to zero, so it must be to do with triggering from the thumbnail to actively play on trigger in the player.

Is there anyway you can disable this feature on IOS devices, or provide an option to enable / disable.
I assume it works fine on the other mobile platforms.

I really like this plugin and hope I don’t have to move over to something else.
    Keep up the great work.

    Cheers

    Hello,

i am having the same problem with my ios devices also.

Love this plugin, it would be perfect if this one issue was resolved.

Also having a hard time finding where to donate for plugin development.

    Thanks

    Stillmo

The only way i was able to get it to work is by long pressing the thumbnail and opening it in youtube.

This is such a great plugin and i would hate to start over but this is a huge problem to have to use a work around for certain devices.

Is there any way to fix this?

    Will this plugin be updated?

I gave up and switched to the Youtube plugin
