Database Merging?

Is it possible for my phpbb members to be able to post on my wordpress without re-registering? Essentially what I am asking is either merging the databases or perhaps having the wordpress database only acknowledge the users. I’m optimistic that its possible but…then again I don’t know a lot about these things. Any help is appreciated.
