Multiple blogs, single user table?

I’m wondering if anyone has come up with a way to run multiple blogs using different WP installs and same database via unique table prefixes BUT allowing every blog instance to use the same user table. Point being that the same person could log into multiple blogs with the same user profile. The only sort of solution i can think of is to use MySQL to replicate or mirror the user table from one install to another. Any ideas? Thanks!
