I finally found a theme (Midnight City) that works for me. And wouldn’t you know it, it’s a very old version. I would like to install a calendar widget but can’t find anything compatible. It should be able to show upcoming events.

What do you mean by “a very old version”?

You’re using WordPress 4.4.2, that’s the latest version of WordPress released less than a month ago, and MidnightCity 1.3.4, that latest version of MidnightCity released less than a year ago.

You should be able to use pretty much any calendar widget plugin with that combination, even the one included with WordPress at Appearance -> Widgets in your Dashboard.

Thank you James. Excuse my ignorance. When I saw
“compatible with 4.3.1 or higher” and I saw Midnight City was 1.3.4 I panicked. I am totally out of my comfort zone with this. So now, How do I install it?
BTW, thank you for your prompt answer.

Everything that mentions compatibility around here is with regards to the WordPress version, not the theme’s version. ??

So, when you see “compatible with 4.3.1 or higher” you’re fine because you have WordPress 4.4.2.

Assuming you’re referring to a plugin, go to Plugins -> Add New in your site’s Dashboard and search for the plugin’s name. When you find it, you’ll notice an Install button.

I have successfully downloaded and installed but have been fiddling for hours now trying to make it appear. I am having difficulty understanding the whole widget thing and how to manipulate them. I’ve watched the videos and they explain what they are but not how to use them.

What is the name of the plugin you’re using for the calendar?

It’s calendar 1.3.7 Does that make sense? okay, I found id but don’t know how to activate it. Is there a place I can go to learn about this stuff? You are very helpful but I feel like I have a zillion questions.

Ok, I recommend asking at https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/calendar#postform so the plugin’s developers and support community can help you with this.
