I have an established site with okay traffic. I am running WordPress 4.3.3.

In my settings I would like to change my wordpress address and site address from https://www.example.com to https://example.com.

Are there any ramifications to doing this that I need to think about? If something goes wrong, can I just change it back? (F.Y.I. I fall into the “WordPress for Dummies” category.)

If it is at all relevant, I recently added a 301 redirect to my .htaccess file to remove the dates from my URLs. That seems to be working fine.

    Thank you in advance.

You don’t need to change anything in your WordPress website to be able to do that. www is not needed. For example if you go to https://www.www.ads-software.com or www.ads-software.com it will bring you to the same place. This works the exact same for your website.

The reason I wondered if I needed to do this was because when I run a Pingdom site speed test on: https://example.com, my speed registers consistently as a little slow, and the first two lines it runs through are https://example.com (1.4 sec) followed by https://www.example.com (1.9 sec)….and then a bunch of other stuff.

If I run a Pingdom speed test on https://www.example.com, it runs through the https://www.example.com, but skips the https://example.com and always seems to run quite fast.

Is this what should happen? In your opinion, is any action needed on my part?

    Thank you again.

    Hello.

In order to have your site point from: https://www to https:// you would just use a simple 301 redirect.

But if your worried about your score on Pingdom, the more redirects you have, the lower your score will be.

Unless you notice a significant drop in speed, I wouldn’t worry too much about it. Especially if you have a decent score.

    Thank you.
