• Hello all, I don’t even know where to begin…

This morning my blog at https://theory.isthereason.com got hacked pretty bad, together with other accounts on the web host.

The hack was so bad, we couldn’t get any index.htm or index.php files working, as they keep getting defaced thanks to some script.

I can’t access any web interface for my wordpress blog, though I managed to salvage my MySQL database. I wasn’t able to access WP-ADMIN, so I couldn’t turn off plug-ins or anything.

I’ve since gotten an account with bluehost.com and am trying to restore my blog, but being a WordPress version 1.5 blog, their Fantastico wordpress install was the latest 2.3.3.

The WordPress docs won’t be relevant, since I’ve got to rewire the database backup for the new server. Does anyone have any advice how I should go about this?

  • i think you just need to upload the database (use phpmyadmin). connect it with the brand new wordpress installation. and wp would automatically prompt you to upgrade to the latest version.

Managed to get wp-admin working. Updated my WP to 2.3.3 and should be able to export it to my new web host with WP 2.3.3 installed. Thanks for listening ??
