I’ve read most of the threads in this support forum and find that a substantial number of them deal with custom controls not working. I believe that the problem lies with the selector. If you don’t use the correct selector used by your theme, your custom control won’t work. For example; I’m working on a Child Theme for 2016. The selector for Site Title (.site-title) doesn’t “work”, but “.site-title a” will. Don’t ask me why; just saying.
