I have searched high and low throughout wordpress forums, I have checked my spam folders, I have checked all my wordpress settings, I have deactivated all wordpress plugins, etc, but I am not receiving notifications when there is a new comment submitted to a post and this is driving me CRAZY!!!

The funny thing is when I use a specific email address and I do not receive the notifications of a new comment, BUT when I change that email address to something else, the system sends me an email alert to that email that would not receive new comment notifications, it sends a notification of the email address being changed (go figure).

What can I do to receive notifications of when comments have been submitted?

I hope someone can help with this!

Clearly, this issue is specific to your specific email address.

You may want to ask your hosting provider as to why one email works and the other does not !

My fault, I was not too clear.

The email address I used was: [email protected]

So I have that email address in my settings.

When I test the tool and make a comment to a post, I do not receive any email notifications.

Now the next thing that I do, is log back into the settings to change “[email protected]” to something else, BUT when I do this, I receive the notification that the email address has been changed.

Why am I receiving the notification of when I change it, but not when I try and receive notifications of when there is a new comment?

First off, go to Dashboard – Settings – Discussion

Make “Email me whenever Email me whenever Anyone posts a comment” is checked

    Yes they are both checked.

To rule out any theme/plugin conflict, try:
    – deactivating ALL (yes all) plugins temporarily to see if this resolves the problem (plugin functions can interfere). If this works, re-activate them individually (one-by-one) to find the problematic plugin(s).
resetting the plugins folder by FTP. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.
    – switching to the unedited default Theme (Twenty Sixteen, etc.) for a moment using the WP dashboard to rule out any theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

If all the above steps do not resolve the issue, then:
    – ask your hosting provider what’s going on (e.g., if any of their SMTP filtering rules have changed recently; If for some reason your notification emails have been simply queued. etc.)
    – Also ask them if you need to setup SMTP. If you do, then you can use a plugin for it, for example: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/postman-smtp/

Unfortunately I have done everything you mentioned above and that is why I am so frustrated. None of what you mentioned above worked and I just don’t know what could be the issue.

I have talked to my hosting and and I have tried an SMTP plugin as well.

I deactivated all themes and tried and I also switched to a default theme with no luck.

    I am out of ideas:(

I just installed a totally new wordpress just to test and submitted a comment and nothing, so now I really don’t know what is going on.

I am going to contact my hosting company again.

    – this not the default behavior of the WordPress core.

So, , talk to your hosting provider.

If they don’t help resolve it, consider to find a better host.

I think I have narrowed the issue. The problem probably lies with the theme itself, so I am now working with the theme developer to find a solution. If I do find a solution, I will provide the solution here.

Thanks so much for all your help!

    You are welcome ??

The issue was that I was logged in as Administrator, and I was trying to test by posting comments to post as Administrator.

I had to create another account or use some other account to do the test and PRESTO, I started getting all email notifications.

    Problem solved!

For me it was the Akismet plugin that was somehow stopping the emails. I deactivated it and all is working fine.
