Crosspost repeated error warning fills an entire page – randomly
-
I have a MultiSite. CrossPost in NOT network activated. I have used CrossPost for a very long time – without issue.
The function is working – crossposting.PROBLEM: I open any page in the admin of a site or my network for the first time in a sesion I get an entire page of one error warning repeated a dozen times.
a). It happens one time for each site and network admin. I mean: New visit by me…open any page to access site admin, get a wall of errors. Go to a different site and access admin, get a wall of errors. Go to network admin, get a wall of errors. But not all sites, not always.
b). I turned on debugging. I didn’t see any errors or messages.
c). Crossposting is working. (It is not network activted. The sites that have it activated, it works.)
d). Everything else, sites, network, and admins, work fine.
e).I have been ignoring it and working as usual.
Error Message:
“Crossposting to WordPress.com failed. Unfortunately, I have no idea what WordPress.com is talking about. Consider asking WordPress.com Support for help. Tell them you are using WordPress Crosspost, that you got the error shown above, and ask them to please support this tool. ‘Cause, y’know, it’s not like you don’t already have a WordPress blog, and don’t they want you to use theirs, too?
Additionally, you may want to turn on WordPress Crosspost’s “Enable detailed debugging information?” option to get more information about this error the next time it happens.”
Thank you

This isn’t clear. Specifically:
But not all sites, not always.
So, it does or doesn’t happen reliably?
In other words, can you please clarify what the specific steps to reproduce this issue might be, if it can be reliably reproduced?
Hi,
I was just coming back to say that it happens randomly. More so than I thought. So I don’t know how to reproduce it.I was working on some posts today. I walked away for a couple of hours. Left the computer open on the post – site side. Later (now) I looked at the post on the site side – hit the “edit post” and got the page of errors.
I will see if I can get a pattern of occurrence.
At this point, if I have left the site unused (don’t access the admin side) for a period of time – even hours – and go to admin it seems to occur.– When it crossposts I get the affirmative message twice – 2 identical messages that my crosspost was successful with links to WP.com site.
Which has happened for a long time. Months.————————————
I do not know that you can do much unless someone else has the problem too. I have a lot of plugins. I may try to disable them to check it – I realized that I should have done so already. It’s a drag, but that’s my issue, not yours.– I can also turn on debugging and leave the site alone for a while. Come back to it and see if the errors show up while debugging in on.
Yeah, that sounds complex. The specific error being repeated is one that occurs after an HTTP POST to the wordpress.com’s REST API, so another place to look for clues will be your server’s network activity log if you have one. (And if you don’t, now might be a good time to add one.)
I updated a previous post.

Okay – I will get on the server activity log. My web host does that, they check it when I have issues.
What are we, or they, looking for?
What are we, or they, looking for?
The outgoing network activity will show you when WP Crosspost tries to connect to WordPress.com. This should only happen when you save a post, or when a plugin saves a post. If this is happening when you’re not expecting, that could be a problem with your setup. But that very much depends on your setup. ?? Only you know what the baseline for your site should be, what should be considered normal.
Neither of those debug outputs show anything wrong. If you haven’t yet, you should walk through the plugin troubleshooting guide on the Codex to make sure there are no other issues, and also just to narrow the field to make figuring out what the actual issue is easier.
Okay, I will read through your reply carefully and see what I can figure out.
Thank you
My pages are crossposting. I forgot about that.
Pages are supposed to be crossposted. WP-Crosspost supports all post types.
Very good. I couldn’t remember about pages. Thanks.
I need to visit plugin troubleshooting – it will be a great benefit to me. I will do that first. (Give my host tech support a rest for a couple of days.). I imagine it entails deactivating everything.
Without doing anything – I can guess that something is wrong with my setup.
WordPress CrossPost is connecting, or trying to, when I am not posting. Initial access to any admin side screen – a post, page, or admin page (like Network Plugins) triggers something once at the start of each session. Session being the time I am working until I quit for a while.
Layman’s interpretation: it seems like after I leave my sites (MultiSite) that they eventually hibernate. When I wake the admin side of a site up or the network, I get the errors at start up.
It is the same on both MultiSite installs. I have two separate domains.
So I am stuck for now. I will try to see about checking the network activity you mentioned.
There isn’t any usable info for me here. If you haven’t run through the plugin troubleshooting recommendations as suggested earlier, do that.
In the mean time I’m marking this resolved since there’s nothing actionable for me here.
Okay. Thank you.
FYI:
I deactivated all plugins – reinstalled WP CrossPost. Tried to connect to WP.com from one site.
I got this message:
“Invalid request, please go back and try again.
Error Code: invalid_request
Error Message: Mismatch in redirect_uri.”
