I’ve just started with the plugin. I’ve submitted several of my existing articles to Apple News, however only one is showing on their side. Also none are showing what I open Apple News on my iPhone when logged into iCoud with my Apple News Account. All articles I have submitted show as Live and Published in the plugin. I haven’t submitted by channel for final approval as yet because I want to preview the drafts first to make sure I’m happy with the typesetting. Any idea what is going wrong?

I have also contacted Apple News Publishing Support and am waiting for the their response.

  • I’m having the same issue; my drafts are appearing in Apple News under ‘Drafts’ but despite being listed as Published on the WP side, nothing is showing up in Apple News via the management interface under ‘Published’ or the App.

@opencollegearts At least you can see the drafts, I can’t even see that. In your case have you submitted the articles for final channel approval?

I don’t want to do that yet as the plugin doesn’t seem to be working as expected.

No, I haven’t submitted for approval yet as, like you, I want to be sure it’s working first. Manually created articles through Apple’s own interface don’t seem to be appearing in the under published either, so I’m inclined towards this being either an issue on Apple’s end or there is an intentional lag time between clicking publish and the article being published. I’m having to bulk publish articles in WP, as the auto-publish doesn’t seem to be being triggered. Perhaps a Cron is needed for that to work…

Could be. I can’t say I expect a response from the developers, it appears they haven’t answered several support threads to date. Also found another plugin called Page Frog, but it as yet doesn’t offer Apple News Support.

Have also found Unipress offer a plugin at $97/month which is pretty steep. Maybe we should crowdfund a plugin that has a small one-off payment?

Looks like support may only be available on guthub. Have opened a duplicate at – https://github.com/alleyinteractive/apple-news/issues/91

It should be noted that if I deleted one of my CMS drafts in iCloud – news Publisher, another of my articles pops into place. So this could be a limitation on Apple’s side. Perhaps the plugin is doing everything correctly and the issue is Apple’s?

I’m thinking that’s the most likely explanation at the moment. Apple only opened up News to every publisher yesterday, so the system is probably struggling to cope with keen folks like ourselves! ??

Apple support just came back to answer to my question regarding only one article appearing under “Drafts from CMS” and they say it is an issue for the plugin developers to address. I’m not so convinced since I know if I delete the only article showing in that section another one of my articles immediately becomes visible. I suspect that all the draft articles are there, but Apples Drafts from CMS isn’t capable of showing more than one article. This again may be due to me not having submitted my channel for final approval.

I am going to risk it and submit for final approval now to see what difference it makes (if any).

Sure enough, as soon as I hit Submit for Approval and accepted the terms I can see all of my draft articles as expected.

@mrankin Just posted another support thread regarding layouts. Did you have any issues with your draft layouts?

    (@mrankin)

@mitchellau I don’t know. That was the second support email I sent to Apple News Publishing – the link to preview my drafts isn’t working, it loads my news channel, but it remains empty. I figure I will just let them go live and if any issues delete them and re-publish them.

Please advise how to upload or publish my draft on Apple news???

@bronzblazedlive click on the installation link above and follow the instruction. If you’re still stuck, please open your own support thread rather than hijacking mine.

@mrankin thanks. I might have to do the same. Worst case – delete posts and wait until the plugin is updated.

I’ll follow up with the Apple News team on this issue, but I don’t believe this to be a plugin issue.
