• Hi there,
I just decided to change the text on the password protected page. Having read the advice on https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Using_Password_Protection#Customize_the_Protected_Text I copied the recommended code into my functions.php file, which resulted in my whole site going down, with the message:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘<‘ in /home/jonaspau/public_html/lofotenbouldering.com/wp-content/themes/responsiveboat/functions.php on line 162

Removing the recommended code didn’t seem to help, so any advice on how to solve this would be highly appreciated.

  • I’m trying to do the same. I found that I needed to go into the functions file via FTP to change it back to the way it was before. The editor in the WP dashboard didn’t seem to want to do it.

If you find a way to change the password protected text, please share here. I am stumped, even though I’ve done everything that codex page suggested.

I got some help restoring my site and learned (I’m not a coder myself) that you should leave out the php tags at the beginning and end of that recommended code, that’s what causing the problem. Having done that I managed to change the password protected text.
