Product ID Numbers

  • Each time you create a new product an ID number is created. I have 3 different websites. I need to have the same product ID number on each product. When I duplicated the sites they all matched. As I create a new product on the master site, the product ID number often jumps ahead several numbers and it requires me to make several new products on the other sites, trash them, and keep making new product pages to eventually get the same product number.

    I have two questions:

    1. What causes the Product ID number to sometimes skip ahead?

    2. Is there anyway to create a Product using an unused product ID? Perhaps I can create a record in the database to use up a number or have the system use the next number.

    Products are a post type, so new posts, drafts, orders, pages etc etc etc all increment the ID number.
