Hey, I’m also having the same problem. The ?¤ and ?? letters show up as ???¤???¤ and ????. My former blog system b2 worked just fine. Is there any way to fix this problem? Thanks.

    Shure. Just use iso8859-1.
    See https://www.ramsch.org/martin/uni/fmi-hp/iso8859-1.html for all characters.

I’m working on a Finnish translation for WP right now. I don’t have a clear schedule for it, but I reckon it won’t take that long. And yes, in order to show those Scandinavian alphabets correctly, you’ll have to change the “Read” charset to ISO-8859-1 or ISO-8859-15 (I use the latter)…

Now, I know it has been a while since I last posted, but I haven’t been able to translate the po file so far. But now, I’m halfway done (I’ve done a very hasty preliminary translation, which I’ll publish during this week) and then we’ll be able to talk about the translation and make the necessary improvements.

Oh good god I’m losing my mind with the translation!! Bulky sentences, computer jargon and awkward structures that just don’t seem to translate well into Finnish. I’m giving up for now.

Could this be of any help?

WordPress in Finnish has a completely translated WordPress 1.5 available. It is the same one as committed to the i18n repository.

You can find WordPress in Your Language on the Codex.

Regarding the Scandinavian accented characters: if you are migrating from an existing database (such as b2) that already has posts written in ISO-8859-1, you will need to change the character set in Options » Reading accordingly.

For any new blogs, it is probably best to keep using the default UTF-8. As you add posts, they will be stored in UTF-8 and will be displayed correctly.
