I’ve noticed a dramatic slow down when using my WP dashboard since installing this plugin, especially when trying to place a photo on a page. Not sure that is related but I’m disabling or deleting some plugins to see if anything helps.

If I disable or delete this plugin will it have and effect on images that it has optimized?

I’m currently using Photoshop CC Save for Web on new uploads so not sure the plugin is necessary.

    Thanks!

EWWW will always slow down image uploads, because it takes time to optimize them…
However, you can switch it to Deferred Optimization to eliminate that slowdown.

And no, disabling EWWW will not change the size of any images you have already optimized.

If you want to see if EWWW is helping your images even after Photoshop’s Save for Web, just upload an image, and then check the Media Library in list view.

    Thanks for the prompt reply.
I have noticed that even after using PS the image files are still being reduced, usually about 5-7%. It all helps!

I do understand that uploading time to insert an image in a post will be slower. It seemed like it was also taking much longer just to insert a previously uploaded and optimized image into a page. Probably not related to the plugin being installed but seemed to notice a big difference shortly after installing it. That’s why I wanted to make sure those optimized photos would not be affected if I disabled or deleted the plugin as I try to see why I’m having this slow-down.

Thanks again, and thanks for the plugin!

There are some plugins that mess with the Media Library display and trigger an image re-generation (and subsequent re-optimization) for every single image being displayed. I forget which ones I’ve seen, but that would be a likely suspect if you’re seeing a slowdown on accessing the Media Library.

The only other possibility that comes to mind is if you’re offloading images to Amazon S3 or something like that, but 2.6.2 should have eliminated that particular slow-down on the Media Library.
