• So, I started to populate my store in November, and with the help of lots of SEO and some Google shopping listings, started getting orders in very early January, at the rate of about one a day….I’m hoping for more, but it’s been steady up until 3/23. That was (coincidentally) the day that I hired a consultant from the Far East to help me optimize the site for better speed.

As far as I’m aware, he only did the following:
    1. Optimized some images
    2. Installed the Speed Booster Pack plugin
    3. Tweaked settings for WP Super Cache plugin, which I’d installed a week or so earlier.

As far as I know, the site is working, I’ve done a few tests with credit cards and paypal and a BUNCH of tests with “Check payment” enabled, including friends who had never visited the site before. No one got any errors and I received the orders. I’m just worried/concerned and was wondering how to might check to see if any visitors were unable to get through the checkout process for some reason. I’m losing money!! Maybe it’s just a coincidence, but I just can’t believe how suddenly the orders dried up, even though I’m paying Google for the same number of shopping clicks every day and my prices are very competitive. Thanks.

Argh, no idea why this is in the “Plugins and hacks” section and not the troubleshooting one. Mods, can you help???

Edit: because Woocommerce is a plugin. Newb alert!

You’re in the right place, you’re in Plugins and Hacks because you posted in the WooCommerce support forum ??

You mention that you’re paying Google (I assume Adwords). Are you also running Analytics to check that you are actually getting visitors?

If he implemented caching he could have messed with the cart and checkout pages which need to be dynamic. Best bet would be to do some tests from other computers, mixing logged in/logged out, and ensure items add to the cart as normal.

I don’t have Analytics on my pages. Started to set it up but haven’t finished it. I can tell you that I’m paying for plenty of clicks via Adwords, so there should be some orders.

I rarely get a customer who logs in/creates an account and I have had about 8 test orders created by others (not prior visitors) – all successful.

I’m considering deactivating the caching plugin for a couple of weeks as a test. Do you think that will be effective if this is a caching issue? One thing I know for sure: prospective customers don’t tell you when there’s a problem with the site; they just buy somewhere else!!

The first thing you should try is disabling the cache plugin :).

There is a tool which captures the visitor userscreen.

Maybe you can check the issue with that. It’s completely free:

Very interesting! I’m concerned about that tool, though…at this point, I’m hesitant to add ANYTHING to the site. I don’t want to ‘break’ it any more than I have.

I’ve disabled the plugin. One thing I’ve noticed is that the number of open orders no longer shows up next to Woocommerce in my dashboard. Strange.

    Update:

I was playing around with some product listings, and happened to notice that main product images weren’t appearing for many products without a screen refresh. This hadn’t happened to me tonight. I disabled a ‘pinch to zoom’ plugin and it didn’t seem to help. Went ahead and disabled the Speed Booster Pack plugin and the images seem to be appearing consistently.

Why on earth does it seem that one out of every 8 or so plugins causes some sort of problem that ranges from inconvenient to crippling? Argh.

If I start getting orders again, I’m going to have to figure out how to speed up my site a little again without wrecking it!!!!!

Update #2 (in case anyone is paying attention):

I found that mixed content on some pages was causing me to lose the coveted “lock” icon that tells browser users that the page is secure. Played around with forcing SSL and decided to just switch the whole site over to https. Of course, this slows the site down *even more*, but I hope this helps bring more orders in.

Additionally, I uninstalled/reinstalled the Woocommerce plugin, in case something went wrong with the installation.

sciroccojim debug mixed content via browser error console. In chrome, View > Developer > Javascript console. Resources not loaded over https will be listed. Usually due to hardcoding URLs to things.

I did that a few days ago and the only item that was I couldn’t sort out was my logo. I can’t figure out how to change it to https. I’m using Avada them and my url is https://www.mypetforlife.com (currently served over https)

    Thank you.

Find where its defined and change https:// to just //

    UPDATE (again!):

I changed the site BACK to http and it appears to be https from the checkout pages onward. I have no idea why.

    Thread Starter sciroccojim

    (@sciroccojim)

“Find where its defined and change https:// to just //”

That was easy for elements like favicon but for some reason, Avada doesn’t show the url for the logo in their front end. This is something I have to take up with them.

SO, at this point, the site is a bit sluggish but should be workable, there doesn’t appear to be any mixed content issues, and Woocommerce has been reinstalled. I’m crossing my fingers, hoping for some orders!!!

Argh! I think I found the problem!
    Help!

When I place an order on my iPhone, the customer info does not auto populate the shipping address info and the shipping charges do not show up. Checking the “ship to different address” box and entering the address doesn’t help – shipping charge area still displays the message, saying that charges will be calculated once shipping info is entered. So…a customer is forced to enter credit card info and pay for the order, not knowing what the shipping charges or total will be!!!!!

The only workaround I’ve found for this is if you use the shipping calculator prior to proceeding to the ship-to address screen.

I did NOT have this problem on Mac/Safari – only while using the phone, which is the way most customers seem to shop.

    (@mikejolley)

Shipping area/costs update as you fill in the address. I suggest you check out demo to see how things work https://demo.woothemes.com/

Fill out the fields, then watch the totals area refresh. Works on mobile.
