It seems like a link to a Wikipedia jpg file page triggers the Featherlight plugin. For example, click on “Charles W. Chapman” under the featured image on this post. This should just be a normal hyperlink, but instead it tries to load the link in featherlight. My guess is because the link ends in “.jpg”, but it doesn’t really link to just a .jpg but a Wikipedia page. Is there a way to fix this? Thanks!

    Hey Collin,

Hmm… that’s a tough one. We’ve run into issues with the file extensions being triggered incorrectly in URLs and that issue will be solved on the next update, but the link on your post would still fail.

The way the automatic image linking works depends on the link string ending in the file extension, so when a link ends in one and doesn’t actually link to a file it creates a problem.

I’m not sure how much of an edge case this is. It seems like it’s probably fairly uncommon, but I’ll see if there’s any way we can address it before the next update rolls out.

    Hey Robert,

Thanks for the response! Maybe there is an attribute we could pass in the <a> tag of such links somehow that tells Featherlight not to engage for that link? Possibly in the rel attribute?

Or if there is some way to trigger Featherlight to only work on a tags that have imgs inside them? This may just be my use case, but I only want Featherlight activated on images that are links, not text links to an image file.

Just some ideas. Thanks for the great plugin!

Just flagging up that I’ve also come across the same issue (again, Wikimedia links) – when crediting images via links at the bottom of a post or in an image caption.

I would second Collin’s suggestion for using an attribute or similar to disable the lightbox manually on specific links. I suspect some people have a use case for text links -> lightbox, so don’t imagine disabling them wholesale would be feasible.

    Thanks!

Or I wonder what the consensus would be for disabling featherlight for text-only links, where they are pointing to an external resource?

And another request to resolve this somehow!
