Might have been hacked

  • Suddenly I cannot update a clients wordpress site. Started looking and the htaccess file was changed and points to a strange file called despotic-democrat.php Anybody else seen this?

  • remove the reference to that file from HTACCESS and then find the file on the server and delete it.

    If you can access the site after doing that you will need to run a malware scan on your server account. Usually your host can do this for you but when my clients have issues like this I like to run a scan myself using

    Securi SiteCheck
    and
    WordFence
