Use only gallery image on single product page (hide 'featured')

  • Hi,

    I’m working on a site selling paintings using the Mystile theme. Product images are both portrait and landscape in size. To make the catalogue pages look nice and uniform, I used an image resizer to add white space to make them square based on their height and length.

    The catalogue is working well now, but I don’t want that same Featured Image to be used on the Single Product Pages (due to the white space being used). I instead want the Single Product Page to display the first Gallery image, as it is properly cropped. Perhaps this link will show the issue I’m having.

    I want the second Gallery image to be the only image shown on the product page.

    Can anyone assist with this?

    The featured image is ran through a filter, so it would be possible for a developer to filter on this with a custom function and try to pull a gallery image instead.

    I will mention however, it might be better to try to leave the main image and gallery alone and add a custom field for your ‘cropped’ image. Then this can be pulled and shown on archives either via a different filter or template edit. That would be a better route IMO because you then leave featured images working as intended.
