• Resolved stylenoir

    (@stylenoir)

I’ve read the master list, all 5 of my sites (with different builds/themes) have the media library issue, where it shows blank, and all images when tried to upload fail.

Upon reading the master list, I decided to try a completely fresh install, on a completely fresh server partition, with no entries, no plugins, nothing.

Guess what, media library doesn’t work.

Does anyone have a solution for this? Are WP going to release an update to solve this? Since the fresh install has only 4.5 and twentysixteen running I cannot understand the issue?

    Would really appreciate the help/feedback

    Thanks!

  • I’ve the same problem, and have done much the same as stylenoir without success. No new JPEGS will upload, and 80 pc of my library has a ? mark on it and will not open. There is no explanation for this. When the upload fails there is an error message suggesting I ‘try again later’. How much later??!! I’ve given it 24 hours! I have a working site and can no longer post images. Please try to help us

If you need a working site, temp solution is to downgrade to 4.2, but as we’ve both said, especially since I’ve done a fresh install with ONLY wordpress code, I’m surprised there isn’t a fix/patch for this yet!

I’m having the same issue with my sites. I’ve been watching and waiting for days to see what the fix is going to be. I have one site waiting to go live but can’t until we can load media. I was pondering just rebuilding it, but now I’m glad to know that would probably be futile. This is so frustrating!

@stylenoir, Can you get a better error by checking your browser’s console? If you don’t know how to, see this article: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Using_Your_Browser_to_Diagnose_JavaScript_Errors#Step_3:_Diagnosis

If you haven’t already, look at the master list for 4.5 issues: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/read-this-first-wordpress-45-master-list?replies=7&view=all

@everyone else, if you pile into a topic then you’re making the thread an unpleasant place to provide support – basically people won’t help you. Make sure you create a new thread to discuss your issues. Support topics are not for ranting.

Hi Andrew, thanks for your reply
Unfortunately I’ve already done both. I’ve already checked the console, and nothing showed either on the live site, the admin, or the media library (thought I’d check all pages incase)

Also as I said at the beginning, I’ve looked at the master list. It is not in that list. Again this is a completely fresh and un populated install. 4.5, twentysixteen, nothing else.

I do see many many people on forums/google having this issue, and since this is on a fresh install with no changes now, I know it’s not my code. . does anyone have the solution to this?

Ok this is interesting, WPENGINE seems fine… all sites that I’m having issues with including the complete fresh twentysixteen install are on cpanel systems.

So my questions is now @dishyart and @aseanstrategies are you on cpanel? Perhaps this is a memory issue or something!

    @stylenoir

Hey there! I am on a cpanel server. I am currently working through the cpanel angle. I didn’t want to say anything for fear of “piling on” some more.

Andrew, I know the Mods are working overtime right now and I certainly don’t want to offend anyone. I will be vigilant of that in the future!

I have been reading all of the threads for days and hoping that any resolution we do now will not interfere with an wp update. I’m a coding novice so I don’t want to do just any fix.

I found this video in another thread: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1gnhu7jylMY&feature=youtu.be

Have you implemented something like this? Did you get your fresh install errors resolved?

Again, I am a total novice, so do you think if this is implemented and it resolves the media upload issue, would it conflict with any future updates?

@dishyart, No worries, but to keep things simple I’m going to focus on the original poster.

@stylenoir, can you check your website’s error logs? Replicate the issue and then see if anything new appears in your error logs, even if they’re notices.

    Thread Starter stylenoir

    (@stylenoir)

@dishyart hey, interesting! So it seems we’re narrowing this down then!
I have tried something similar to that, but it didn’t solve, although doing it through WHM could be interesting

    @andrew Nevins
Thanks appreciate it. Going to do that now and then see what we come up with.

    (@stylenoir)

@andrew nevins – on the fresh install only info from the error log I’m getting is

[18-Apr-2016 11:20:14 UTC] PHP Warning: ini_set() has been disabled for security reasons in /home/style/public_html/site/wp-includes/load.php on line 292

Which I assume is host related?

@stylenoir I’ve been stalking this post to see if Andrew has had a chance to reply. I know they’re busy. From what I’ve seen, the error is consistent with the server setup at some hosts. This is why I’m hesitant to change anything until I have a clear set of instructions and I can include my host (godaddy).

    I found this article: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/34082632/warning-ini-set-has-been-disabled-for-security-reasons

but I’m not sure if this is the fix or if it’s allowed by my hosting. What do you think?

    Thread Starter stylenoir

    (@stylenoir)

    Hi @dishyart

Ini_set is disabled for security reasons on ALL hosts. (if your host doesn’t disable it, quit now). The reason why is having this enabled gives all sorts of security vulnerabilities.

I’m interested in the display_error you mentioned, so we’re doing that first, as soon as I know more I’ll post again. Whilst I’m still looking for a solution I’m trying to update what isn’t working, to try and help either wordpress staff or others reading this stream.

Hi all, to anyone having this issue, can you test if the original size of the image affects the issue? For example, if you try to upload a very small image, like this one. Does the error persist?

What is the original file size (both in pixels *and* KB/MB) of the images that are failing to upload?

    Thread Starter stylenoir

    (@stylenoir)

    Hi Joe,
I’ve tried both small and large images, additionally the main problem is the media library is blank, as in – doesn’t show at all. With the grey wheel just spinning forever. I just did a 200 x 150 px image to try it out, that failed too.

Error is – “An error occurred in the upload. Please try again later.”

Interestingly: and this should be taken with a pinch of salt – I swear that when I downgraded on one of the sites, the images that had that error whilst I couldn’t see anything in 4.5 … were then there. EG I feel it doesn’t actually mess the library up at all or make things fail, it’s just the display that’s broken? Which makes it seem like it is (and is unusable clearly)

    Thanks @stylenoir,

Both symptoms—the missing library, and the upload failures—are likely related, but it’s also possible that they are two separate issues. When you go directly to the media library, wp-admin/upload.php, are you seeing issues with both the grid and list view, or only the grid view?
