Any suggestions on how to install the WordFence firewall, when on Godaddy shared hosting?

I can’t seem to get it to work. I’ve tried the 5 choices in the dropdown, and the alternate method of editing the php.ini. I’ve tried adding Setenv to the .htaccess as you suggest on your docs page at https://docs.wordfence.com/en/Web_Application_Firewall_Setup. I don’t have any other security plugins, but I tried disabling all plugins except WordFence and that didn’t work either.

No matter what I do (or how long I wait) I get: “The changes have not yet taken effect.”

Since GoDaddy shared hosting is probably one of the largest possible configurations, any suggestions? Other than changing hosts, which I realize this question might attract.

    Thanks.

  • I have the very same issue. I’m with Stablehost shared hosting and am receiving the same message: “The changes have not yet taken effect. …”

I do have a number of wordpress installations: each one is installed in a parallel directory under public_html/. I wonder whether multiple wordpress installations on one account may be causing this particular issue? Do I need to add the firewall to each wordpress installation before it works for any of them?

I’m adding a comment here so I receive an update as I cannot find a post that shares the solution to this particular issue.

    Thank you.

I have sites I manage on several different hosting services, and GoDaddy was one of the trouble-free ones in my case. Configuration worked (I can’t remember now if it needed the 5 minute window or not) and the Firewall has been in learning mode, is set to switch today to enabled mode on at least 5 sites, one of which is a multisite install.

I have had issues on Siteground, Hostgator (though that one is working now), and others, but bit by bit the issues are being worked out.

In all GoDaddy cases, I’m using the recommended server configuration, and the default setup options…it just worked.

They may have fixed it, because I originally tried it on several sites with every configuration without any luck, but it’s working now. As you say, now “it just worked.”

I’m having the same issue with regard to installing the Firewall – get a constant message – “The changes have not yet taken effect. …”

How does one KNOW the changes have occurred? Does Wordfence provide a message? I have noted that several posts have been made about this topic and no answer has been offered other than one post that said a miraculous fix may have been noted on her part. Thank you.

My installation is on a shared server with GoDaddy. All themes and plugins are current.

“The changes have not yet taken effect. If you are using LiteSpeed or IIS as your web server or CGI/FastCGI interface, you may need to wait a few minutes for the changes to take effect since the configuration files are sometimes cached. You also may need to select a different server configuration in order to complete this step, but wait for a few minutes before trying. You can try refreshing this page.”

This is still an issue for me as well (I’m on stablehost) – I don’t know why this post is marked ‘resolved’ – I made the changes on every single wordpress installation.
