Order of variations in dropdown

It uses the order in Products > Attributes > Whatever attribute.

but they always alphabetize themselves here and in the dropdown

Go to Dashboard > Products > Attributes

There is a drop-down there which you can set to “custom ordering”, but this is only the default for new attributes. It doesn’t apply to existing attributes.

So, find your attribute in the list on the right hand side of the page. As you hover over the attribute name, “Edit” will come into view just underneath the name.

Click “Edit” and on the next page, set the ordering drop-down to custom ordering and Save.

Go back one page to the list of attributes. On the right hand side of each attribute row, there is a little gear-like icon. Click that and it’ll bring up the list of terms. Drag and drop the terms to your taste and Save.

If you have more terms than fit on a page, you can increase the number of items in screen options.

You’ll have to do this for each attribute. With hindsight, best to do this as you setup your attributes.

As Mike says, the order of variations reflects the order of the attributes.
