Issues after upgrade

Hi,

I am not the theme author, but I think these are the information you need to know and do after any theme update.

If you have a cache plugin, you will need to clear it’s cache content after doing theme update.

You will also need to clear your browser history.

Update WordPress and all your plugins.

If you have modified templates in a child theme, you will also have to compare with parent theme and made necessary updates.

Just noting that I am having the same issue with the site menu and color changes. Fortunately I remembered issues with Evolve theme upgrades in the past — so I installed/tested on a staging site rather than my home site.

I’ve disabled automatic theme updates on my main site. I’ve tried to debug the color changes on the main menu, with no success… and I can’t really afford to deal with this pattern of theme upgrades which mess up previous layout.

This is unfortunate as I do prefer to keep themes updated. But this is at least the 2nd time that an Evolve update has made significant changes that impact layout and display…. and it’s unfair to me and to my clients to required re-coding of style options every time a theme is upgrade.

In my personal opinion, you should not be using a free theme for your client.

You should know that the author of a free theme does not have any obligations to it’s users. So even if the theme crashes, it’s the author’s free will, whether he wants to update it or not.

Any theme author in www.ads-software.com Theme repository can abandon the project anytime they want.

But you do have an obligation to your client, so perhaps you should have a team of programmers in your company to take care of such issues.

It would be even better, if you fork the Theme and continue development as your own. You could host your fork in a public or private repository such as github.

Denzel – this is not a free theme. The theme must be purchased. There is also a pro version that you can pay a little more for to unlock more features.

The issue is that with updates, it seems as if the customizations made to it relative to colors and fonts go back to the default settings, or some other arbitrary setting that’s been changed. The point is that I paid for something, and now, someone’s messing with something that I paid for.

I just had this same issue with another company. I purchased a theme, and now the creator of the theme wants me to “renew my subscription” to use all their themes. I only bought one theme, but from the communication I’m receiving, it seems as if I’ve not purchased anything because I didn’t “subscribe” to all their themes.

Perhaps purchasing something from ThemeForest means that I’m paying ThemeForest for a theme that’s provided to them for free by the creator. In the mind of the consumer, however, that doesn’t matter. If the consumer has paid for something, there’s been money that’s changed hands. That establishes the customer relationship. If I’ve paid for the theme, it’s not free.

It doesn’t matter whether the theme is free or not. No theme developer is obligated to upgrade its themes, but generally it is expected that an upgrade will be compatible with prior versions. There certainly are other excellent free themes on wordpress that are very reliable and consistent with upgrades. Many themes follow the model of making the basic theme available without charge and then offering optional plugins.

Denzel, you say that you are not the theme author but I can see that you post in the support forums at https://theme4press.com/support-forums/ — so you are a representative of the developer.
