• Hey there,

Just a few questions regarding this plugin and WP 4.4 responsive images. If I have this correct, 4.4 added the automatic resizing of images for different sizes/devices. However, I don’t understand what exactly the difference is between that and this plugin.

For example, if I want to embed an image at 600×600 for desktop, I would need a 1200×1200 version for retina. Does 4.4 handle this, or is this what the plugin does?

    Ugh, so confusing.

    Hello,

If you want 600×600 for normal device and 1200×1200 for a retina device, that is what the plugin does. With WP 4.4 responsive images, instead of a 1200×1200 (that would NOT be created) it might use a 2800×2800 sized image or the full-size, basically whatever is available.

    Thanks for the reply,

Just to clarify, the plugin auto resizes the full res retina image that is uploaded by creating a half size version, or does the user need to upload two versions. In my example, if want a retina 1200×1200, I would upload that and designate that as the retina version and the plugin does what exactly?

Also, again to clarify, I realize that with 4.4, WP delivers a resized image dependent on the screen size. Without the plugin, can you tell WP to use a full size for retina and a half size for desktop?

Sorry for so many questions, just trying to differentiate what the plugin does compared to the new version of WP.

In the case of full-size, you need to upload two versions. The first, naturally, using the Media Library. The second one (the full-size for Retina), using the dashboard. For a single upload, check this thread I have created: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/feature-upload-directly-a-full-size-retina-and-the-plugin-creates-the-full-size.

You can’t tell it to do that, the browser just do it automatically, but without the plugin the system wouldn’t have the right image for it. So it might work or fail depending on the device, it would just try the “best” it can. My plugin works with the new version of WP, it’s not an alternative ??
