• Hello,

I would like to add a read more to my blog but if I use the quick tag, the sidebar is not displayed.
If I replace the_content by the_excerpt, the links and picture(s) are not displayed.

Any Idea how to do this ??

    Thnaks in advance

  • could you please post a link to your site, so we can see it break when you post the quicktag along with the_content()?

Would I be correct to say that the sidebar doesn’t appear on the index page, but does when viewing the single post… or a page without the quicktag in it?

If so, the most likely cause is a malformed MORE link. Try just using the_content() with nothing in the brackets to format the link, at first.

I prefer the Excerpt Editor plugin. It is quite flexible, you can in- or exclude tags, such as <img>, say on what pages there should be excerpts, how long they are and most importantly, the excerpts don’t end with [...] but with “continue reading posttitle” (or whatever you make of it).

I’m also struggling with this issue. I have all the proper SEO aspects running as I want, now working on usability issues. I’ve tried tons of combinations of the the_content tag, no joy. I prefer to use the excerpt tag. I’ve looked at the Excerpt plugin and it looks ideal, but it’s not yet approved for WP 2.5, so I’m reluctant to use it.
