Hi – After much testing, what seemed like an odd issue, is now just frustrating. Though I think I’ve narrowed down the problem.

I am suddenly having a problem with content backups not running. I run two separate backups – database only and the content folder. My database backups are running without issue.

There are no errors and no log files indicating the job was even attempted. When I start the backup manually while logged in, it runs fine.

Today I set it to run every 5 minutes and logged out. After a while, I logged back in and, as expected, it had not run. However, the moment I login, it runs. i.e. a backup scheduled for 2:10 pm. will run as soon as I login at 2:16pm.

Based on this, I figured it must be a permissions issue, so I disabled ithemes security – which didn’t work.

I disabled both ithemes and backwpup and then reactivated backwpup. This did not work.

I had hoped activating backwpup with ithemes security DE-activated was the fix, but no luck. The only password protection is in my maintenance mode, but I also deactivated that and it still didn’t work.

I also added the admin user to the settings>>network authentication. (I do not have any password protection on the site except for the deactivated maintenance mode – and obviously the backend.

I found sort of the same issue mentioning BackWPup using another security plugin: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/htaccess-username-and-password?replies=7

Does this ring any bells and do you have any advice? Guidance would be much appreciated. This site is under development.
    Thank you!

  • I think it is a problem with the traffic on your site. The WordPress Cron only works if you have visits on your site. To improve that you can setup a cronjob by your hoster or using the EasyCron service.

Wow – I didn’t even go there – even though all affected sites are under development. It didn’t occur to me I suppose because the db backup was running fine … Thank you for pointing me in that direction!

If you are happy with our plugin and support, we would really appreciate if you take just a minute to rate our plugin! Thanks a lot in advance!
