This worked great the first time. Then I realized that to import settings for my theme I needed no other content. Now when I’m trying to reimport the joomla data it gets hung up importing categories. Also, if I stop the import and try to navigate somewhere else in the dashboard it hangs. The only way to get it un hung is to clear cookies, close the browser and then login again.

Does this really need a blank slate to import?

Before reimporting the data, you need to empty the already imported data with the button “Empty WordPress content”.
You don’t need to clear cookies and close your browser.

Yeah, I cleared the imported data but not all of the wordpress data. I needed that data so I’d have the basic settings for my theme and I couldn’t stall my basic settings for my theme over your data or they wouldn’t all install.

The theme data are not deleted.
Only the posts, pages, custom post types, attachments, menus, categories, tags, custom taxonomies and comments are deleted when you click on “empty WordPress content”.
Don’t forget to make a backup of your database before doing it.

My theme had dummy data (posts, pages, custom post types, attachments, etc). This data was needed to achieve the layout the client wants so I couldn’t delete that data prior to importing from joomla.

If your plugin requires all data (including dummy data) to be deleted you need to tell us this….some where.

The deletion feature has been improved in 3.12.0.
Now, only the imported data can be deleted, even if there is another data created before or after the import.

    Thanks for the update.
