Hey, I’m newer than new to wordpress. I know absolutely nothing about code. I had someone build a website for me and he is no longer responsive when I ask him to update it. I tried logging into the //wp-admin page myself, only to be directed to a 404 error page. I clicked “New Install” on the ‘wordpress tools’ tab on bluehost.com, which fixed the 404 error, however, I cannot find any code under “pages” when I log in to the admin page. My website, https://www.demodamusic.com, is still active. My friend thinks there is something acting as an extension of wordpress which is powering my site, but I wouldn’t even know where to begin to look. If this is confusing or not the appropriate lingo I’m sorry. Please Help!

  • Your site is still an html site and not a wordpress site. There could be one there. Using the file manager provided by bluehost.com look in the root directory for a file index.php. If that is there rename the index.htm file index.htm-old.

Thank you! I just did it, not sure what to do next.

Still the html. Using the file manager provided by your host look for folders wp-content, wp-admin and wp-includes. Are they in a separate folder?

When you log in go to post then add new. Name it test, put some copy in it,askdjfoajsdoflmas. Just before the title a permalink will appear, click on it. Where do you end up?

Go down to Users, all users. Are you an admin?

Also go here and start reading. https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Main_Page You don’t have to know code for WP but you do need an idea of how the pieces fit together.

Thank you SO much! I ended up figuring it out after you enlightened me to the file manager. I am now updating the website via the html files as we speak. Glad I payed a little attention in my html class in college! enough to know exactly what and what not to mess with. Thanks again!
