Hey @kevinjwalsh1 – if all you did was update WordPress and nothing else changed, I’m not sure it would be directly related to our plugin causing that error. Many issues are related to a plugin/theme conflict – especially the ‘was working – stopped working’ kind. Please deactivate ALL plugins. Please also temporarily switch your theme to a WordPress default theme like Twenty Twelve. Now, reactivate NextGEN Gallery only. If this turns out OK and the error does not occur, switch back your theme. If there is still no error than that’s a good sign – no theme conflict! ?? Reactivate each of your other plugins until the error comes back and let us know which one is the culprit.

Any plugin/theme conflicts, please report them directly to us here: https://www.imagely.com/report-bug/

If all of the above does not help, I have a few more questions for you:

    – NextGEN up to date?
    – All plugins up to date?
    – Do you have a caching plugin installed? If so, please purge/delete all site cache and deactivate the plugin. Clear your browser cache and reload the page with the issue. Is it still there?
    – Try disabling all browser extensions/plugins and clear browser cache and reload, does that help?

    Keep me posted.

–Deactivating all other plugins, including caches, had no effect; when I upload photos, I still get broken links where the photos should be. Cleared cache.

–I did not switch themes, as I have never done it before and I wouldn’t know how to get the old theme back.

    — I now suspect my theme, WordPress Theme 1135, may be the culprit as I acquired it in 2011 and had my provider at the time alter the theme to my specifications. My trouble began when I updated WordPress from 3.2.1 to 4.5.2. I imagine the old theme is incompatible with the new WordPress version in many ways. My site no longer accepts comments. I have my current host liquidweb looking into this, but I have a feeling I’ll have to rip out the theme and use another one. However the site is massive and I have no idea how to install an updated theme.

One more problem with nextgen: to add photos to a gallery you can’t pick them out from a list in Manage Galleries as you had before, you have to scroll through a list of galleries with just the names, not the numbers. Since I hve over 8700 galleries that takes awhile.

Until I get the nextgen problems cleared up I have switched to Responsive, with which I’m not completely happy either.

@kevinjwalsh1 – I’d like to clear up any guess work of the theme possibly being the culprit to this error, so I’m wondering if creating a ‘mirrored’ version of your site to a test location would be a possibility (i.e. test.yourdomain.com ). This would serve two purposes: 1) be a location you’d feel safe switching the theme and see if the error clears up and also deactivate all the other themes. 2) A safe place to test future updates for WordPress, Plugins, and Themes before you make those updates live on your production site. Your hosting provider could help assist in setting up a mirrored copy of your site. Would this be something you’d be up for trying? I think this would be a great way to get clear answers right now and provide a way in the future if needed.

Regarding the change in how to add a photo from a gallery. I’m not sure what you’re referring to, could you take a screenshot(s) showing where the option used to be and then where you have to go about it now?

    Thanks Kevin!
    Becky
