Where to develop a site

I develop on my own server, where work is visible to the client. When the site is done, the client has approved everything, and the final payment made,then I transfer the site to the client’s hosting. (That’s how we write our contracts.)

When transferring the site to the client’s hosting, should I anticipate any (technical) issues moving the site and database?

Are there best practices in setting things up on your server to avoid having technical issues when moving?

Each site on my server is its own virtual host, so it’s in /var/www/client.

What do you mean by “virtual host?” Can I set that up on any hosting server?

Or can I develop in https://mysite.com/clientsite and follow instructions in https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Moving_WordPress when moving the finished client’s site to https://clientsite.org?

You can do it in a sub dir on your site.
